3 Conventional Herbal Remedies
72It is commonly known that HERBAL REMEDY is an alternative practice to medicine. We use herbs and plants to treat various illnesses. However, this is not a remedy to replace pharmaceutical products. It is used as a temporary relief and prevention to possible sickness. It should be noted that these remedies take a little longer to take effect. It is also advisable to consult a physician if the ailment still persists. Do check your doctor before you begin especially if you are presently taking any medications. This is to avoid any possible complications. Below are three conventional herbal remedies that you can easily find in your cooking condiments.
Garlic
Previous research and studies showed that one-half to one clove of garlic per day reduces cholesterol by approximately nine percent (9%). This herb lowers cholesterol levels that helps prevent possible heart stroke. It can be used as raw cloves, sauté in oil, mix with honey, or buy in capsule supplements. It was used as an antibiotic in the ancient times. Another study also said that this great cooking condiment can also help lower the risk of colon, prostate and bladder cancers. It may help support normal body circulation, immune system and blood pressure, too. You can also peel and mash one raw clove and apply it directly to insect bites or bee stings. It can also be used for sore throat, cough, fungal infections, and earache. However, administering this type of remedy may as well vary from a garlic extract, syrup or boiled herb. The easiest way is to eat it raw in small amount, but you may experience some strong odor that comes with it. Proper precautions must be observed.
Ginger
Ginger is traditionally used as an herbal medicine to treat problems such as diarrhea, coughing and rheumatism. Its roots are used to provide relief for motion sickness such as dizziness or vomiting. It is said to nourish gastro-intestinal system. The chopped ginger is commonly applied to “wet” conditions such as to prevent skin infections. The powdered ginger is used to “drier” areas such as allergies. Other known uses includes relieving headaches, menstrual pain, arthritis, sore throat, and flu. You can simmer 1 teaspoon of chopped ginger (peeled) in a 12 oz. cup of hot water for approximately 5 to 7 minutes in a closed teapot. It is said that this is also good for people who love to sing. They should drink this before vocalization. However, it should be noted that excessive use of this herb may cause gastro-intestinal problems, too.
Parsley
Parsley is another herb that can easily be found. It is primarily used as garnish when cooking especially for pasta, soup and salad. It can be used as fresh leaves or dried, which you can buy at the grocery store. It is used as an herbal supplement to help support the digestive system. It is said to be a good remedy for bad breath, too. It contains a mild antiseptic that neutralizes bad breath. You can chew fresh parsley after meal or anytime when you feel you want to freshen up your breath. If you swallow the herb, it can help reduce intestinal gas. It should be noted that this is not a permanent cure for this problem. Some possible risk involve when taking large amount of parsley are: a. it may cause miscarriage; b. it may cause some allergic skin reaction; c. it may damage liver and kidney. This is not recommended for pregnant women.
You should always be aware of the safety measures or precautions when you begin to take any herbal remedies. Again, it is advisable to study it well and consult an expert first to avoid medical complications.

Nice hub! Natural is the way to go! And everything can be found at your local grocer. I agree that you should check with your physician before taking any medication - even herbal remedies. Also be careful of the amount/dose you are taking & consuming - too much of a good thing isn't always beneficial. Rock on!
