Inspirational Quotes and Thoughts
I just started to write a guidebook, which I wish to publish it in the right time. But I thought that it would still take me a few months or even years to finish it. It is quite disturbing to hear news about bullying, people committing suicide, the economic crisis, unemployment rate, and a lot more. I wanted to share and help people understand that there’s more in life than dwindling on our difficulties and problems. So I hope that this article would inspire others to move on and get back on their feet again.
Hope is within our reach; we only have to hold on to it.
A man lost his job in his late thirties and eventually suffered a mid-life crisis in his career. He felt bad because his so-called “long time friends” who were his officemates betrayed him. They made up stories against him to their big boss that led to his termination. His case of non-performance was too shallow. He had evidences to prove his innocence, but he never sued the company for wrongful dismissal. He was a good man, silent type and responsible worker. Although he felt bad, he never held any grudges against them. His family had no knowledge of what happened to him. He held on to his faith that God had a purpose for everything that happened. His fiancée helped and supported him. It took him almost a year to find a new job. But his faith, hope and determination to move on landed him back to a great career. He now reports directly to the owners of the company who recognizes his outstanding performance.
There are times in our life that may seem dark. We may lost our jobs, grieved over a loved one, betrayed by family or friends, stepped down by our bosses, or even foreclosed our home. We may feel that we have nowhere to go or maybe we are hurting inside. We may feel lonely, confused, hopeless, or depressed. But do you remember the story of Job in the bible? As a rich man, God took everything away from him to test his faith. We may asked, why do bad things happen to good people? In Job 2:10, he said to his wife, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”
Just like Job, the man in our story never gave up. They praised Him through good and bad times. Their faith and hope upon the Lord kept them going through their life. Perhaps, God allows certain things to happen for a reason. But our hope to see the brighter side of life and the future is within our reach; we only have to call upon the Lord to reach it. Do we trust Him to provide for our needs?
Reflection:
Lamentations 3:25 – “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him.”
A foolish man spends his time wondering what to do;
while a wise man spends his time doing the wonders.
Once there was a story about a young boy who had an apple tree at their backyard. He wanted to eat it, but he was too lazy to climb the tree. He wondered, “Will it ever fall so that I can catch it?” So he would lay down under it hoping the fruit would fall. He waited . . . and waited . . . and waited for days. But it never happened; until one time he fell asleep. A small girl came and saw the apple. She made a long stick with a basket to reach for it. She got the fruit and ate it with a happy smile. So what do you think is the moral lesson in this story?
The young boy did not realize that only rotten fruits fell off from a tree, which means that these were not good anymore. He spent his time laying down waiting for the apple to fall. Sometimes we tend to be like this young boy who become lazy in life. When things don’t go the way we wanted it to be, we become depressed to do something productive. We just keep on wondering why others have a good life, while we don’t. We eventually end with something less if we don’t act out at once.
If we become like the little girl in our story, her being small didn’t become a hindrance for her to get the apple. She knew what she wanted and made her efforts to reach for it, which she did. That’s a success for her!
Do you remember the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14 to 30? We were taught not to hide the talents and skills that were given by God. We should try to develop, practice and make use of it according to His will. It was said that those who have been faithful with small things will be given more. But whoever is lazy and does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
Ask yourself these questions: What is my mission in life? What do I want to achieve? What have I done to reach it? When do I want to accomplish it? How much time can I spend? Is it realistic and achievable? Who will be involved? What are my resources? Have I already prayed for it?
SUCCESS can only be measured by YOU. Others consider success as living a simple life and being happy with their families and friends. While there are some who measure success through their wealth and others through their accomplishments. Whatever measurements you use as long as you set your specific goals, you will definitely reach your right destination. It is like driving a car or running a race, you need to know where to go. So stop wondering what to do, but have faith and do the wonders of God.
Reflection:
Colossians 3:23 - “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
